Mr Apollo
ROOTS * ROCK * AMERICANA
All the way from the Wild West Midlands of the UK,
Mr Apollo are veteran purveyors of quality original material and a well chosen cover or two.
Expect Richard Thompson, Ronnie Lane, Wilco, Neil Young, and more.
Folk-Rock, Blues, Roots and Americana, punctuated by bad jokes.
The roots of Mr Apollo began in the time-honoured fashion of so many aspiring English musicians, when school friends Pete Holder (vocals, guitar, mandolin) and Ian Rushbury (vocals, bass, guitar) came together to play the traditional music of 4,000 miles away, and formed blues band T's Basement. After burning through almost all of the drummers in the West Midlands, in came Craig Shipley (drums, vocals, piano) - who remains to this day.One day, serendipity decided that what the band really needed was a Geordie viola player; enter Paul Miller (viola, vocals, guitar).Time passed and T's Basement turned into Electric Shed, then Anorakula and finally Mr Apollo. Mr Apollo's roots/rock songs encompass such topics as laments for dead blues singers, fear of the Y2K bug, anti-social behaviour on public transport and Morris-dancing IT specialists.
